December 17, 2011 -> Central Air Conditioner | Tags: capacitor, central air conditioner , fan motor. Older 3 ton unit, the outside fan comes on at startup, but slows down and finally stops within 5 minutes, then hums.

I have consulted two local HVAC companies; one saying that I need a bigger unit and the other saying I need a second unit. I have tried my hand at using Manual J software and it shows a 5 ton unit is the correct size
